Janus adds a deployment path, not an NRC result
On August 26, BWXT announced that the U.S. Army selected BANR for the Janus program at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The company described a phased approach whose first stage includes site work, TRISO fuel fabrication, supply-chain preparation, and initiating nuclear regulatory processes with the Army. It said the Janus version is planned at 20 megawatts electric and 75 megawatts thermal.
BWXT targets site groundbreaking in late 2028 and operation in the early 2030s, subject to later contracts and technical and regulatory milestones. The NRC notice does not say whether the September 22 discussion will address Janus or Fort Campbell.
